This year, Jeff and I said we weren’t shopping on Black Friday. We just bought a house after all. Buuuuut, the reality is, we need so many things in order to keep moving forward on projects in our home that we caved after seeing all the sales. Plus, Hannah and Noelle are old enough to stay home alone, so Jeff and I made a date of Black Friday this year. I think he just really wanted to hang out at Lowe’s and buy things to work on our house because he’s so happy to be a homeowner again. I can’t blame him…it IS nice to be able to build some sweat equity again, as well as decorate with the knowledge that you’re not going anywhere for a long time. We definitely didn’t go crazy, but instead focused on things we were going to purchase soon anyway and that were on major sale today. So, without further delay, here are my random Black Friday purchases:
The first item we bought was this table saw. We have SO many projects in this house and though we will hire some of them out, we’d also like to tackle some of the more reasonable ones ourselves, so this purchase made sense. In our last house, I built a banquette and I had to have our neighbor rip all of the sheets of wood down for me because I didn’t have a table saw. Hopefully, this moderate purchase will save us on labor in the long run.
On the opposite end of the spectrum (I told you the purchases were random), we bought this huge mirror because the fireplace wall in our front room is abnormally large and we needed something in the correct scale to hang over the fireplace once I build out the surround and mantel. It will also help to bounce light around this room until we can have windows cut into that wall. The mirror is 5 feet by 4 feet…SUCH a great size and at 25% off (the discount subscribers received…non-subscribers can get 20% off), there was no way I wasn’t going to beg my husband to buy it. I absolutely adore the frame too!
We bought 3 rolls of this wallpaper for when we’re ready to renovate the girls’ bathroom. I’m slowly collecting all the materials needed so that it’s not such a hit to the budget all at once. I hope to share the whole design plan with you soon.
This might be my favorite Black Friday purchase (it’s a toss up between this and the Aimee Mirror). It’s the sconce I’m going to use between two of these mirrors in the girls’ bathroom. Isn’t it gorgeous? If you are in the market for lighting right now, you must go check out the selection at McGee and Co. because everything is 20% off and shipping is free!
We also picked up several bags of this amazing Pumpkin Cinnamon Pull Apart quick bread from Williams-Sonoma for our neighbors and my husband’s coworkers. Right now it’s 50% off, and we plan to attach a cute printable to each one, encouraging the recipients to bake with their family this holiday season. Who wouldn’t love to receive something from Williams-Sonoma? I’m excited to give them this year.
Unless my husband is shopping online for things I don’t know about, that’s it for our Black Friday purchases. I tend to struggle with the whole consumerism component of days like Black Friday, but I’ve been participating in it in some form or fashion since I was a kid so it’s become a familiar post-Thanksgiving ritual that I look forward to, and as long as I don’t go crazy, spending just because there are “deals,” I am okay with continuing the tradition.
I’d love to hear your big score for Black Friday 2018 in the comments below!
