Surprise DIY Decision!

Published on January 17, 2020

This week, I have a surprise DIY decision to share with you and I’m so excited about it!

Surprise DIY Decision

Last week, I shared in this blog post that one of the leftover projects from 2019 is the dry bar hole in our family room. My sister and I ripped it out a few months ago without a plan for what we would do there…oops. I’m so glad I didn’t do a built-in bookshelf because my old neighbor recently sent me a message suggesting a reading nook for this space. She also sent me a picture of the kind of nook she was thinking of, and the light bulb went on in my head!

We don’t need a dedicated bookshelf in this spot because we plan to eventually add a wall of built-ins in our family room. Having another one in this little spot would, in my opinion, be overkill.

Surprise!

So, the surprise DIY decision we’ve made is to turn the dry bar area into a reading nook! I’m so excited because I know my girls will love the nook. It will also add visual interest and be a unique feature in our home. Here’s what the demoed dry bar area looks like now:

Here’s another inspiration photo from Pinterest that gives the general idea of the layout of the nook:

p.s. G.P. Schafer is now on my radar because of this search and I just got lost in his enchanting website…it’s what design dreams are made of.

Can you see the vision? I’ll be sharing the whole process over on Instagram, so be sure to tune in and watch this fun transformation take place!

What do you think of this idea? Would you love to have a sweet little reading nook tucked away somewhere in your home?

So glad you’re here,
